Depression & Anxiety

Depression & Anxiety

Depression and Anxiety can affect anyone, regardless of their racial or ethnic background. However, research suggests that depression and anxiety may manifest differently in Black and Brown individuals.

People of Color (POC), may experience unique stressors and life experiences, such as discrimination, racism, and socioeconomic disadvantages, which can increase their risk for depression. These factors can also make it more difficult for POC individuals to seek help for their depression due to cultural stigma or distrust of mental health professionals.

In addition, research shows POC individuals may be more likely to experience physical symptoms of depression, such as fatigue or bodily pain. This may be due to the effects of chronic stress on the body.
